High Court issues bench warrant for man wanted in Lithuania

The High Court in Dublin has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a man wanted in Lithuania on weapons and terrorism charges.

The Lithuania authorities are seeking the extradition of Liam Campbell (aged 46), Upper Faughart, Dundalk, who it is alleged was involved in a conspiracy to obtain weapons, ammunition and explosive substances in the Baltic republic between the end of 2006 and during 2007.

Today at the High Court Mr Justice Michael Peart issued a bench warrant after being informed that Mr Campbell was not present in court as required under the terms of his bail.

Remy Farrell BL for Campbell said his client was not in court because he was detained in the North on foot of a European Arrest Warrant from Lithuania in relation to the same charges.
