Man critical after Dublin assault

A man was fighting for his life today after receiving serious head injuries in a suspected pub brawl.

The man, 34, was taken to hospital yesterday evening after being found on a street in Dublin’s north inner city.

It is believed he was drinking during the afternoon with a group at Lowry’s Pub on Summerhill Parade before a row broke out.

Paramedics called to the scene found him unconscious on the street, between the pub and a nearby Gala supermarket, at about 6.30pm.

The victim, from Ballymun in north Dublin, was taken first to the Mater Hospital before being moved to Beaumont Hospital, which specialises in serious head injuries.

It is understood he suffered a fractured skull, swelling of the brain and was in a critical condition.

Investigating officers have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Fitzgibbon Street Garda station.
