The group set up to support victims of sexual abuse by Dr Michael Shine at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is calling for a full independent inquiry.

Dignity 4 Patients says those who were assaulted over a 30-year period continue to endure hurt and pain.

In 2003, Dr Shine, who is now in his late 70s, was acquitted of 11 counts of indecent assault on six teenage boys between 1974 and 1982.

He has since been struck off the medical register for professional misconduct.

Dignity 4 Patients says a previous review of the handling of complaints against Dr Shine was totally inadequate.
