Mid East worst affected by unemployment crisis
The Mid East region of the country has been worst affected by rising unemployment over the past year, according to figures published today by the CSO.
The statistics agency says the number of people on the Live Register in Meath, Kildare and Wicklow increased by more than 117% in the 12 months to the end of May.
Unemployment is up significantly in all regions, but the South-East (Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and south Tipperary) recorded the smallest rise of 83.2%.
