Unionists criticised for failure to attend funeral
The SDLP has expressed disappointment at the failure of unionist politicians to attend the funeral of Kevin McDaid in Co Derry yesterday.
The 49-year-old community worker was laid to rest in Coleraine yesterday after being beaten to death by a loyalist mob nine days ago.
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and SDLP leader Mark Durkan were among the mourners at his funeral.
However, no politicians from the DUP or the UUP were present.
Mr Durkan says this was very disappointing given the united political response following the murders of two British soldiers and a PSNI officer in Co Antrim earlier this year.
