Priest calls for urgent action on sectarianism

A priest at the funeral of murdered Coleraine man Kevin McDaid has warned that it could happen again unless there is urgent action to tackle sectarianism in the Co. Derry town.

Mourners were led by the dead man's widow, Evelyn, herself beaten in the same loyalist attack, his three sons - while the North's deputy first minister, Martin McGuinness, and the SDLP leader, Mark Durkan, also attended.

Father Charles Keaney said a minority in Coleraine tolerated or even approved of sectarianism and that was unacceptable.
