Safefood warns of BBQ dangers this weekend
The Safefood agency is warning that many people may be taken ill this weekend because they don’t know how to check if barbequed food is properly cooked or not.
The good weather is expected to entice people in their thousands to cook outdoors.
According to Safefood, recent research shows that as many as one in five people don’t know how to check if their burgers, sausages or chicken are properly cooked on a barbeque.
Dr Gary Kearney, Director of Food Science with Safefood, said people need to check that the meat is cooked.
He said they should also take special care to make sure frozen food is fully thawed before cooking.
