Police question man over McDaid murder

Police in the North are continuing to question a 33-year-old man this morning in connection with the murder of Kevin McDaid in Coleraine.

The man was one of two people arrested yesterday in connection with the killing.

The other detainee - a 53-year-old man - has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr McDaid was beaten to death by a loyalist mob on Sunday night following Rangers' victory in the Scottish Premier League title race, while a second man, Damien Fleming, is also fighting for his life in hospital.

Nine men appeared in court yesterday on a range of charges including murder, attempted murder, assault and affray.

The First and Deputy First Ministers jointly condemned the murder yesterday and promised to take steps to tackle sectarianism in Coleraine.
