Christian Brothers issue apology to abuse victims
The Christian Brothers have issued an apology to all those who were abused while in their care.
The order issued a statement this afternoon saying it accepts âwith shame, the findings of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuseâ.
The Christian Brothers admit that their responses to reports of abuse in the past were âinadequateâ, and recognise that they have âa moral obligationâ to the victims.
However, the statement makes no mention of the issue of compensation, and the controversial indemnity deal.
Instead, the Christian Brothers say that in a bid to make amends for their abuses in the past, they will review how âresources can be best applied on reparation for abuses of the past and as an investment in child education and welfare for present and future generationsâ.
