Jury in Dunbar trial retires to consider verdict

The jury has retired to deliberate in the trial of Ronald Dunbar, who is accused of murdering a 14-year-old girl in Sligo three years ago.

The 44-year-old - from Rathbraughan Park in Sligo - denies murdering Melissa Mahon and dumping her body in the River Bonnet in September 2006.

The jury retired at 2.45pm this afternoon, after the judge had told them they had three options in relation to a verdict - guilty of murder, not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, or an outright acquittal.
