The inquest into the death of Swiss student Manuela Riedo is due to get underway in Galway today.

The inquest into the death of Swiss student Manuela Riedo is due to get underway in Galway today.

The 17-year-old was found dead on waste ground near Lough Atalia in October 2007, just days after arriving in Galway to study English.

Twenty-nine-year-old Gerald Barry, from Rahoon in Galway, is serving a life sentence after being convicted of her murder in March.

Last week, Ms Riedo's parents travelled to Dublin for the launch of a new foundation named after their daughter which will help rape and sexual assault victims throughout Europe.
