Ahern to present anti-crime proposals to Cabinet

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern is due to put a package of measures aimed at tackling gangland crime before his ministerial colleagues tomorrow.

The proposals are expected to make it a specific offence to direct the activities of a criminal gang.

Yesterday, more than 5,000 people attended an anti-crime march in Limerick organised by the father of murdered businessman Roy Collins.

The father-of-two was shot dead at an amusement arcade last month, apparently because a member of his family gave evidence against a leading Limerick criminal.
