A 49-year old man has been charged with the murder of Cork widow Anne Corcoran.

Oliver Hayes - of Clancool Terrace, Bandon - was charged today at the town's District Court with murdering the 60-year-old at a location in Cork between January 19-23 last.

Anne Corcoran's body was found in a wooded area near Garrettstown beach after a massive search operation. Oliver Hayes had been charged with her false imprisonment, but today a second charge of murder was also brought against him on the direction of the DPP.

State solicitor Malachy Boohig said that 200 pages of the book of evidence had already been prepared, and that he hoped it would be finalised by the May 20.

Judge James McNulty remanded Hayes in continuing custody on the two charges to appear at Kinsale District Court next Thursday, May 7.
