Health Minister Mary Harney is set to attend an EU meeting in the coming days to evaluate the threat posed by the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico.

Health Minister Mary Harney is set to attend an EU meeting in the coming days to evaluate the threat posed by the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico.

More than 100 people have died in Mexico after contracting the virus, while confirmed cases have also been detected in the US and Canada.

Suspected cases are being investigated across the world as the WHO warns that the illness poses a serious international threat.

Speaking in Dublin this morning, Ms Harney said the Department of Health was monitoring the situation closely in conjunction with the WHO.
