Ireland's tax take last year was €8bn below the figure estimated in the Budget, according to the latest annual report from the Revenue Commissioners.

The report says a total of €41bn was collected last year, down almost €6.5bn compared to 2007.

Elsewhere, the Revenue Commissioners say €152m worth of drugs were seized by customs officers in 2008, while €3.5m in cash was also seized at ports and airports.
