Man charged in connection with death of GAA star's brother
A man was charged tonight with the manslaughter of a top GAA footballer’s brother.
Connor McCusker, 31, sustained serious head injuries when he was assaulted in the centre of Cookstown early on Sunday morning.
The brother of Derry senior Gaelic football vice-captain and full back Niall underwent emergency surgery for head injuries in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast but died on Monday.
The 21-year-old accused is due to appear at Strabane Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.
He was arrested at the scene of the incident in James Street and last night detectives were granted a further extension to question him.
Local Sinn Féin MP and North Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness expressed his sympathy to the McCusker family and urged anyone who could assist the police investigation to come forward.
