Man remanded over woman's party murder
A man was remanded in custody in the North today charged with the murder of a mother-of-one.
Katie Hughes, (aged 21), was stabbed to death at an Easter house party in Bangor, Co. Down, on Monday.
Mark Wallace, (aged 25), spoke only to confirm he understood the charge during a brief hearing at Downpatrick Magistrates Court today.
District Judge Mervyn Bates said: “This is a very serious offence. You have been remanded in custody, there will be no bail application.”
Wallace, from Elmwood Drive, Bangor, was arrested shortly after the killing at a house overlooking a park in the town.
The gathering was a farewell party for some friends travelling to Australia.
Ms Hughes, from the Chatsworth area of Bangor, was taken to hospital but died shortly afterwards.
Wallace was remanded in custody until April 22 to reappear at Bangor Magistrates Court.
