Defence Minister Willie O'Dea says he is personally aware of a number of witnesses to serious criminal activity in Limerick who are too afraid to give evidence.

Defence Minister Willie O'Dea says he is personally aware of a number of witnesses to serious criminal activity in Limerick who are too afraid to give evidence.

The minister was speaking this morning at the opening of a book of condolences for murder victim Roy Collins, who was shot dead in the city last Thursday.

It is believed that the 35-year-old was killed because members of his family gave evidence in the trial of crime figure Wayne Dundon.

Minister O'Dea says the murder has increased the level of fear among the public.
