HSE report describes errors made by pathologist as ‘unacceptable’
The HSE has described as ‘unacceptable’ the number of mistakes made by a locum pathologist who was employed at University Hospital Galway for six weeks in 2004.
A report published today says the diagnosis of prostate cancer in two male patients was delayed for two years because of reporting errors.
A third patient had a second procedure carried out which was later deemed unnecessary.
Clinical Director of Laboratory Medicine at Galway University Hospital, Martin Cormican said he and his colleagues were relieved that the errors in patient care were limited.
