PSNI seeking extra £66m to fight dissidents
PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has said he hopes the British government will give him an extra £66m (€72.2m) to fight the threat from dissident republicans.
Mr Orde told the Policing Board today that Northern Secretary Shaun Woodward was pushing to secure the funding from the British Exchequer.
He said he expects to know if the money will be forthcoming in around a week.
Meanwhile, Mr Orde also said thousands of applicants had responded to the latest PSNI recruitment round, showing that the dissident threat is not frightening people off.
