The US authorities have charged three Irish businessmen with illegally exporting aircraft parts to Iran.

The US Justice Department says some of these parts have been used by an Iranian company involved in the country's nuclear programme.

The three Irishmen allegedly work at Sligo-based firm Mac Aviation, which brokers aircraft parts and engines for foreign customers.

Among the charges are conspiracy, violating US trade agreements and providing false statements.

If convicted, the men could face up to 20 years in prison.
