A lorry today collided with a number of cars in a multi-vehicle crash in Co Meath.

Gardaí said the brakes on the lorry failed and it crashed in to several vehicles on the main road in to Slane at 9.45am.

It is not yet known if anyone has been injured, added a garda spokesman.

AA Roadwatch said all roads into Slane village have closed following the serious collision, which is believed to involve eight vehicles.

“The roads which include the N2 Dublin/Monaghan Rd and the N51 Drogheda/Athboy Rd are likely to remain closed for most of the day,” said a spokewoman.

“Motorists will have to take an alternative route and delays are likely.”
