Two dead after Donegal house fire

Two people have been killed in a house fire in Co Donegal, gardaí confirmed today.

The blaze at a property in Cavan Lower, Killygordon, broke out before 10pm last night.

A Garda spokesman said two people were pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the second fatal house fire this week.

On Monday morning, three brothers – James, Tony and Martin McDonagh – died when their family home in Drogheda, Co Louth, was gutted by fire.

It is understood that last night's fire claimed the lives of a couple in their late 50s who lived in the detached bungalow.

Local councillor Patrick McGowan said people in the area were in shock.

“They were a very quiet couple from very respectable families in the locality,” said Mr McGowan.

“It’s a tragedy.”
