Five people were feared dead after a house fire today.

The blaze broke out in a home in the Moneymore area of Drogheda, Co Louth, shortly before 8am.

The local fire brigade said it was believed five people were killed.

The alarm was raised at 7.50am and two fire crews from Drogheda and one from Dunleer were sent to the housing estate.

Eamon Wolfe, Chief Fire Officer at Louth County Council, said firefighters remained at the house and were continuing to search the property.

“There would appear to be up to five fatalities,” he said.
