SR Technics workers protest at Swiss Embassy in Dublin

Workers from the SR Technics plant at Dublin Airport are holding a protest outside the Swiss Embassy in Dublin today.

The Swiss-owned firm announced plans to close the facility last month, with the loss of more than 1,100 jobs.

SIPTU says it is now offering an unacceptable and inadequate redundancy package worth €48m.

The union says this amounts to three weeks' pay per year of service, despite agreements promising workers twice that amount.

In a statement released today, the company said: "The redundancy budget for SR Technics’ Dublin operation is limited by the financial resources available to the wider group in the context of severely challenging market conditions and the need to restructure the group to ensure its ongoing viability.

"SR Technics will continue to engage constructively with the group of unions representing the Dublin workforce through the statutory consultation process."
