Golden eagle found dead in Donegal was poisoned

Tests have confirmed that a golden eagle found dead in Donegal last month was poisoned.

The female bird was found dead in the Glenveagh National Park on February 19.

The Golden Eagle Trust, which is managing the reintroduction of the birds in Donegal, says it believes she was poisoned using baited meat.

A number of golden eagles have been lost in the area since 2005, including a young pair which have not been seen since spring 2006.

Gardaí have now launched an investigation into the incident.
