Hundreds of job losses in Midlands

Several hundred more workers faced a future on the dole today after two leading employers in the Midlands announced job cuts.

Pharmaceutical giant Elan is axing 42 posts at its Athlone plant, with 73 jobs going in Dublin, while the Wolseley plumbing and building supplies firm is letting 180 staff go in Offaly with the closure of four stores.
