Gardaí to protest over Govt's handling of economy

Off-duty rank-and-file gardaí will stage a protest in Dublin today over the Government's handling of the economy.

The Garda Representative Association says about 1,000 of its members will gather in Parnell Square to march to the Dáil this afternoon.

They're angry over the Government's cost-cutting plans, which they say will hit public servants disproportionately.

GRA President Michael O'Boyce said his members feel they are being ignored.

Mr O'Boyce said: "We don’t have confidence that the Government has a credible plan of recovery from the current financial mess that is based on fairness, equity and ability to pay."
