Man held after speeding through North checkpoint
A policewoman was forced to jump to safety when a car sped through a checkpoint in the North, it emerged today.
A man was arrested over the incident in Larne last night.
Police had set up the road stop at the junction of Shore Road and Island Road at around 8.45pm, as part of an investigation into an alleged assault in the town earlier in the evening.
When a red Toyota Corolla was flagged down, the driver failed to stop and drove at the police woman, who had to jump out of the way of the car.
“The officer was unhurt but shaken by the incident,” said a Police Service spokeswoman.
The car was recovered later a short distance away at the Roddens area, close to Dixon Park.
A 34-year-old man was arrested, questioned and released on bail pending further inquiries.
Investigating officers said they are looking for witnesses, particularly a number of women who are thought to have got out of the car just before the incident.
