Haemophilia Society concerned about British vCJD case
The Irish Haemophilia Society says it is concerned following confirmation that a person in the UK has been infected with vCJD via contaminated blood plasma.
The 70-year-old British man, who died of other causes, became infected with vCJD from a blood transfusion carried out in the years before strict controls were brought in to eliminate spread of the disease.
Around 50 people with haemophilia in Ireland have used plasma from the UK.
The Irish Haemophilia Society says letters have been issued to all people with haemophilia in Ireland informing them of the development.
