No immediate plans to cut social welfare, says Government

The Government tonight ruled out any immediate cuts in social welfare payments despite falling inflation levels.

Goodbody Stockbrokers earlier said in an economic forecast that this area of public spending "cannot be ignored" as part of an overall plan to manage the public finances.
