Cork gardaí launch murder investigation
Murder-squad detectives were tonight probing the stabbing to death of a 27-year-old man in a quiet residential area.
Eddie Gallagher was found at around 7am with serious injuries in a house in Friar’s Walk, in the south side of Cork city.
He was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital but was pronounced dead around an hour later.
Gardaí sealed off the house and the street immediately outside the property to allow officers from the technical bureau carry out an examination.
Inspector Pat Lehane of Anglesea Street Station urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Our appeal is for anyone who was in the vicinity of Friar’s Walk and the surrounding area between 6.30am and 7.30am this morning to make contact with us at Anglesea Street station,” he said.
Mr Gallagher was from Ard Cullen, Hollyhill in the northside of Cork city.
