Foreign trips to Ireland down 2.2% last year

Trips abroad by Irish residents exceeded the number of visits made to Ireland last year for the first time in 18 years.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 7.84 million overseas visits were made to Ireland in 2008, a fall of 2.2% on the figure for 2007.
