The Cabinet is expected to approve a €7bn recapitalisation plan for AIB and Bank of Ireland when it holds its regular weekly meeting today.

The plan is aimed at boosting confidence in the Irish banking system by assuring investors that the two banks have plenty of capital to stay afloat.
