The Government is expected to seek a substantial reduction in bank executives' pay before signing off on a multi-billion euro recapitalisation plan for AIB and Bank of Ireland.

Speaking last night, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said the Government would also be looking for assurances in relation to credit for small businesses and a stay on home repossessions.
