The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has hit out at Government ministers who have been criticising the ESB for implementing a 3.5% wage rise due under the national pay agreement.

A number of cabinet ministers have said the ESB was wrong to pay the increase in the current economic climate, with Dermot Ahern describing the move as "crass in the extreme".
