The electronics firm Ericsson is due to brief trade unions today on its plans to shed 300 research and development jobs in Dublin.

The company told workers at its Clonskeagh plant yesterday that their jobs will be transferred to lower-cost locations in China, Poland and Hungary.

The move will not affect employment at the firm's other facilities in Athlone and Dun Laoghaire.

Union representatives say they will be seeking to ensure that any redundancies are voluntary.
