Cowen warns of significant fall in living standards

The Taoiseach has warned that Irish people will have to accept a 10% to 12% fall in their living standards over the coming years.

In an apparently unscripted speech at a business function in Dublin yesterday evening, Mr Cowen appealed to people to show solidarity in the face of the current economic crisis.
