Celestica to lay off 80 workers at Galway plant
The Canadian electronics firm Celestica has announced plans to shed 80 jobs at its plant in Galway within the coming weeks.
Workers were informed of the cuts during a meeting with management at the Parkmore facility last night.
The company says it hopes to achieve the redundancies on a voluntary basis.
It has also assured the remaining staff that it has no plans at present to close the Galway plant.
The jobs announcement followed confirmation from the US computer giant IBM that is seeking up to 120 voluntary redundancies at its technology campus in Mulhuddart, Co Dublin.
