Five in court over weekend heroin haul

Five people arrested on Friday night in the Ballyfermot and Clondalkin areas of Dublin as part of a Garda operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs appeared in court today

Gillian Doyle (aged 19), Kiltalown Court, Tallaght, and Greg O’Brien, (aged 21), Captains Road, Crumlin are both charged with possession of heroin, and possession of heroin with intent to supply.

Doyle was remanded to Mountjoy Women’s Prison, and O’Brien was remanded to Cloverhill Prison to appear again on February 2. They were arrested in Ballyfermot.

John Cawley, (aged 30), The Oaks, Woodtown Lodge, Sligo, and Andrew Meeson, (aged 40), Carraroe, Sligo, were arrested in Clondalkin, and were also charged with possession of heroin with intent to supply. They were also remanded to Cloverhill Prison to appear again on February 2.

A fifth person also before the court cannot be named as he is a juvenile, whose identity is protected by law.

All were granted free legal aid by Judge Denis McLoughlin

The value of the haul is estimated to be €3m.
