Result of Tara Mines ballot due

The result of a ballot of workers at Tara Mines in Co. Meath is due later today.

SIPTU members have been voting on proposals that could result in major changes to their work practices.

The company says these changes are necessary to save jobs and secure the mine's future due to the dramatic fall in the price of zinc.

Some 670 workers were put on protective notice earlier this month.
