€500m worth of welfare fraud uncovered last year

Almost €500m worth of attempted social welfare fraud was uncovered last year, according to the Department of Social and Family Affairs.

The department says more than €100m was recovered from dole cheats, while €142m was saved by cracking down on fraudulent one-parent family claims.
