The Health Service Executive says there is no question of St Patrick's Hospital in Waterford being shut down.

Staff and patients have expressed concern about the future of the facility after the HSE announced plans to close one of its wards.

St Brigid's Ward, which has 19 beds, is no longer taking admissions and patients are to be transferred to other wards.

The HSE says the closure is necessary for health and safety reasons, but the rest of the hospital will remain open.
