180 jobs to go in Loughrea

The US health service company CIGNA is closing its Co. Galway office with the loss of all 180 jobs, it was announced this evening.

The US health service company CIGNA is closing its Co. Galway office with the loss of all 180 jobs, it was announced this evening.

Workers were told the news at a staff meeting earlier.

Lay-offs are to begin in March, with the office will to finally close its doors in June.

CIGNA processes health insurance for the US healthcare market, and is one of the biggest and longest-standing employers in Loughrea.

The work is to be transferred to offices in India and the Philippines.
