Storms leave 5,000 homes without electricity

Around 5,000 homes have been without power overnight following one of the most severe storms to hit the country in years.

At one stage power was cut to over 70,000 homes as winds of over 150 km an hour brought down trees and telephone and electricity poles in many counties.
