Body found in search for missing man

Search teams who launched a major operation to find a missing 53-year-old have discovered a man’s body.

The remains have yet to be identified but the discovery was made in Kilbroney Forest Park, Rostrevor, Co Down after a major search was launched to find missing man Maurice Donaldson.

Police, coastguard and mountain rescue teams began a major search of the Mourne Mountains area of south Down this morning.

This came as fears grew for Mr Donaldson from Kilkeel who had not been seen since Thursday.

Some of the missing man’s relatives were understood to be among the large number of volunteers from the area who helped in the search.

Police this afternoon revealed a man’s body had been found and said the death was not believed to be suspicious.
