Stranded whale dies off Cork coast

An adolescent fin whale that beached itself off the Co Cork coast this morning has died.

The whale was spotted stranded on a sandbank in Courtmacsherry at around 8am.

The local lifeboat service attempted to assist the 18-metre mammal, but it died later in the morning.
