Former boxing world champion Steve Collins is to face a retrial later this year at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on a charge of assaulting a bouncer at the National Stadium two years ago.

Mr Collins (aged 44) of St Albans, Hertfordshire, England, is denying he assaulted 37-year-old Albanian national, Mr Adriatik Vodo, when he was refused entry at the Stadium on June 3, 2006.

A jury failed to agree on a verdict on the same charge after a six-day trial and four hours of deliberation last November.

Prosecution counsel, Mr Sean Gillane BL, asked for a new trial date later this year which Judge Katherine Delahunt set for October and remanded Mr Collins on continuing bail until then.
