Fine Gael MEP Colm Burke says the mid-west region could benefit from a significant injection of EU funds following the loss of 1,900 jobs at the Dell plant in Limerick.

The EC is making a €500m package available for unemployment black-spots in member states and Mr Burke says he has been assured that the mid-west meets the criteria in the wake of the Dell announcement.
