Govt 'to put burden of cutbacks on public sector'

The Government is reportedly set to tell trade unions that it plans to make major reductions in public service pay rates this year.

Reports this morning say Finance Minister Brian Lenihan wants to secure the majority of his planned €2bn worth of cutbacks by cutting pay for civil and public servants.
